Almost everyone in the Netherlands knows the stroopwafel, and it is loved well beyond the Dutch border too. But did you know it comes in many different flavours? At Melly's we press fresh stroopwafels in a range of styles, from the traditional original to playful Oreo and Smarties. Here is a tour of our core flavours and what makes each one special.

Original

The original is the quintessential Dutch treat: a perfect balance of crisp waffle and sweet, gooey caramel. The dough is made with flour, butter, sugar, yeast, milk and eggs, and the caramel filling of molasses, brown sugar, butter and a hint of cinnamon binds the two halves into a chewy whole. Lovely with a hot coffee or on its own.

Oreo

For a modern twist, the Oreo stroopwafel is finished with a rich chocolate coating and crunchy Oreo pieces, a medium sweetness that complements the caramel. The mix of crisp waffle, creamy caramel and crunchy cookie is exciting and satisfying, with a striking contrast of chocolate and white Oreo filling.

Smarties

Colourful and fun, the Smarties stroopwafel is a feast for the eyes as much as the palate. The candies add crunch and a pop of colour, perfect for a photo or just to brighten the day. Chewy caramel, crisp waffle and crunchy Smarties make for a genuinely playful bite.

Cookie Crunch

Cookie Crunch is a tribute to a traditional Dutch cookie, the kletskop. We source ours from a local artisan bakery and break them over the waffle, adding a buttery crunch that contrasts beautifully with the soft caramel. The artisanal touch sets this one apart.

Fudge

For a serious sweet tooth, the Fudge stroopwafel is the most indulgent in the line-up. A thick layer of fudge adds a rich, decadent flavour over the caramel and crisp waffle, with a heavier, more substantial feel that melts in the mouth.
