Where to Buy Fresh Stroopwafels in Amsterdam

Not all stroopwafels are equal. A quick local guide to finding the fresh, warm kind in Amsterdam, plus tins that travel.

Stroopwafels are everywhere in Amsterdam, but fresh, warm ones are not. If you want the real thing rather than a sealed multipack, it helps to know the difference. Here is a quick local guide to where to buy stroopwafels in Amsterdam, whether you want one to eat now or a tin to take home. Updated for summer 2026.

At the market

Outdoor markets like Albert Cuyp are the classic spot, and some stalls do press stroopwafels warm in front of you. This is a good option when a stall is genuinely baking on site. The catch is that the busiest tourist stalls often sell waffles that were made earlier and reheated, so look for the iron actually working before you queue.

The names locals mention

Ask an Amsterdammer where to get a proper stroopwafel and a few names come up again and again. Rudi's Original Stroopwafels presses them fresh at Albert Cuyp Market in De Pijp. Lanskroon, a historic bakery, is loved for its oversized, old-fashioned version. Hans Egstorf has been baking traditional ones in the centre for decades. And there is us, Melly's, pressing them warm all day two minutes from Dam Square. The honest advice: pick by neighbourhood. If you are at the market, eat one there; if you are in the centre, come to us. A warm stroopwafel beats a cold one wherever it is pressed.

At the supermarket

Every Dutch supermarket sells stroopwafels in packs, and they are cheap and convenient. They are also baked weeks earlier and sealed in plastic, so they are dry and firm rather than soft and warm. Fine as a snack or a cheap souvenir, but not the experience people travel for. If a warm, fresh stroopwafel is what you are after, skip these.

At a bakery that presses them fresh

The best stroopwafels come from a shop that makes them warm to order. Fresh off the iron the caramel is still soft, the waffle is tender, and the whole thing is in a different league. A good stroopwafel bakery will also offer them dipped in chocolate and finished with toppings, which you will never find in a supermarket pack. This is what we do all day at Melly's, and you can see the flavours we press fresh.

Tins to take home or ship abroad

If you want stroopwafels as a gift or a souvenir, a tin is the answer. Packaged this way they keep for weeks and survive a suitcase. We sell gift tins, packs and boxes directly, with shipping across the Netherlands and the rest of Europe, plus the UK and the US. It is the simplest way to bring a bit of Amsterdam home for people who could not make the trip.

Find Melly's in the centre

We are on Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal in the heart of Amsterdam, a few minutes from Dam Square, open every day from 9:00 to 19:00. Stroopwafels are pressed fresh throughout the day, so there is almost always a warm one waiting. See the map and opening hours and come find us.
